Role of KRI: Project management and professional leadership

The project’s overall philosophy stemmed from a proposed regional development good governance model which represents a description of processes and determinants involved (arranged by mutual links) that help to form an enabling environment for increased development dynamics and efficient usage of local resources and potential.
Conclusions and recommendations for the improvement of regional development governance include:
- Strengthening and specification of regional self-governments’ position, instruments, mechanisms and relations
- Optimisation of spatial and administrative conditions for region development
- Projection of supra-regional strategic framework at the regional level
- Strengthening of financial powers and authorities held by higher territorial units in regional development matters
- Drafting of a good development plan
- Implementation of integrated regional development planning processes
- Introduction of necessary changes to the organisational environment of higher territorial units
- Linking of development activities implemented by regional and local self-governments
- Development of regional self-governments’ competencies
- Emphasis on regional development evaluation processes
- Learning by peer review
